The WOOD4PLASTIC project demonstrates how wood-derived resources can be transformed into sustainable alternatives to conventional fossil-based plastics!

Recent progress achieved by Aitiip Technology Centre marks an important step forward in validating bio-based materials under real industrial manufacturing conditions.

The team has successfully optimized both the biomaterial formulation and the injection moulding parameters, obtaining highly promising results during the first real production trial of a household dehumidifier, a product typically manufactured using polypropylene (PP).

The trials confirmed stable injection performance and enabled the production of fully functional, high-quality parts using bio-based materials derived from wood residues. These results demonstrate that sustainable alternatives can be integrated into existing industrial processes without compromising product quality or manufacturing efficiency.

This achievement supports one of the core objectives of the project: bridging the gap between research and industry by developing bio-based materials that are compatible with current plastic processing technologies, including injection moulding.

Putting these biomaterials into practical industrial use contributes to lowering dependence on fossil plastics while making better use of underutilised wood residues within a circular economy approach.
